To simplify things, I plan, from now on, to just share the main points from our Bible chats. To get in on all the interaction, you will just have to come on over and join us! ;)

This week’s Bible chat is based on:

  • Acts 15:1–35

Helpful read for our next Bible chat:

  • Acts 15:22–16:5

Key Points

  • Certain Jews said circumcision was a requirement for salvation. Other Christians disagreed. Acts 15:1,2
  • Instead of continuing to argue (I’m not sure how friendly–or not–the debate was!), some of the respected brethren, the apostles & elders got together to prayerfully discuss the matter.
There’s a lesson for us if we even stop there! Even God says, “Come let us reason together.” ;) Is 1:18
  • Circumcision was required in the “law of Moses.” God designed the law of Moses. The covenant of circumcision was 1st given to Abraham. Genesis 17
  • God *had* said that any male desiring to be part of His people *had* to be circumcised… Example: Exodus 12:48
  • Why were some people saying it was different now?
  1. God had made it clear to Peter in his vision that no man ought to be called unclean. Acts 10:28
  2. To top it off now, God had poured out His Spirit on *uncircumcised Gentiles*! How was that for an argument?
  • So, the verdict? Don’t bother the Gentiles about circumcision. *But*… “that they abstain from pollutions of idols, & from fornication, & from things strangled, & from blood.” Acts 15:19,20
  • Consider the implications here…

“Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.” Deut 10:16 God is after hearts.

“Abstain from pollutions of idols.” 2nd Commandment

    “…and from fornication.” 7th Commandment

“…and from things strangled & from blood.” A matter of health.

Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 ….

Be in health. 3 John 2 and ….

Keep His Commandments 1 John 5:2,3; Rev 14:12

  • The Gentiles “rejoiced for the consolation.” In Christ, we are new creatures! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Amen!
  • Tweet spotlight

Join us next time for #myBiblechat… Paul and Barnabas disagree — very sharply. :/
